Keim Interior Mineral Primer
Keim Interior Mineral Primer is a pure mineral sol silicate interior primer and surfacer that is healthy and easy to use. No harsh chemicals or synthesized pigments included, only earthen mineral color and natural ingredients. High hiding white primer is ideal for dramatic color changes and transforms uneven, aged surfaces to a more uniform appearance.
Use on interior walls and ceilings of masonry, brick, stucco, drywall and plaster. Use Keim Interior Mineral Primer on bare and porous masonry, drywall and plaster. Not recommended for wet or splash areas in kitchens, bathrooms or around other water features. It may also be used on interior wood that will not receive traffic or handling, such as beams or ceilings, when a limewashed matte finish is desired.
Keim Interior Mineral Primer is NOT for use on doors, windows, trim, cabinets or floors.
USE ON:
Use on interior walls and ceilings of masonry, brick, stucco, drywall and plaster.
COVERAGE:
Typically requires 2–3 coats to develop mottled, tone-on-tone appearance. Coverage will vary depending on the type of surface, porosity and texture as well as application methods, equipment and workmanship. Coverage below is for each coat applied.
- Quart 55—70 square feet
- Gallon 225—275 square feet
- 5 Gallon 925—1375 square feet
APPLICATION:
Previously painted surfaces should be clean and free of loose or peeling paint, dirt, grease, mold and mildew or other household grime and the surface should by dry. New drywall and plaster applications should be sanded smooth with all dust removed. One coat of Keim Mineral Primer is required for previously painted surfaces and two coats may be needed for new drywall to create a uniform mineral matte surface.
Primer should be well mixed with a slow speed drill and paddle attachment until homogenous. The primer may be too thick to stir by hand. Do not thin primer, apply as supplied.
Apply primer by brush, roll or airless spray.
- Nylon/polyester brush
- 3/8” to ¾” nap synthetic roller cover (depending on surface texture)
- Airless spray:
- 3000 psi, minimum
- Tip: 031” tip minimum
- Remove pump manifold filter and spray gun filter (use only siphon tube filter)
- Back-roll from ceiling to floor for best results
Apply primer in a full, even coat to completely cover surface. For new drywall, two coats may be required for best results. Apply without drips, runs, or sags in wet primer.
DRY TIME
Drying times are temperature, humidity and thickness dependent. Cool and damp conditions will slow down drying.
- Dry to touch: 2—4 hours at 70°F and 50% R.H.
- Recoat: 4—6 hours
CLEAN UP
Clean spills, spatters, hands, and tools immediately after use with soap and warm water. After cleaning, flush spray equipment with a compliant cleanup solvent to prevent rusting of the equipment. Tools should be kept in the paint material or in water during work breaks.
